Turtles

The Cape Verde islands are an important nesting ground for leatherback turtles. These turtles come ashore on many of Sal’s beaches to lay eggs. There is a Turtle Conservation Area close to the Riu Garopa hotel and you may be allowed to see some baby turtles on the beach with a guide. Alternatively, you can visit the turtle hatchery further up the coast.
